Spent hours on the laptop this weekend and succeeded in getting all of our finances on QuickBooks. I set up two companies - one for us personally, which includes the rental endeavors and the farm, as well as personal expenses and tracking the farmhouse rehab. The other is Bill's LLC - that one, in fact, I recreated 2009 so I can take reports to the accountant.
I knew it would take a good long while to get it up and going - and I'm glad to have spent the time now during the dreariness of March.

I think I need to follow you and sit down to make a goals list! We make mini lists of things that need to get done on the weekends, but a master list is great! ;)
I just spent some time on our QBs tonight getting things ready for our accountant tomorrow. I'm such a nerd, I look forward to going in for our taxes every year. I have a general idea of how we're doing but it is good to have confirmation from a professional.
One of the things we're working on at this visit is getting our assets and net worth inserted properly. Come to think of it, I could probably do a whole post on how I run our QBs. It might help others trying to keep farm records!
Hi Jenna/Jena,
The hardest part is getting started. Once you get the program going (and keep a backup copy!) it is fairly easy to plug in numbers. I hope it will make year end tax time much easier next year!
